What this tool does
It turns a big, vague idea ("I want to volunteer abroad") into a clear, country-specific checklist you can actually work through. Tell it where you want to go, the type of work you have in mind, and how long you plan to be away, and it pulls together the practical bits you need to sort before you leave.
That includes visa and entry rules, rough costs and ways to fund the trip, questions to ask any organisation before you sign up, health and safety pointers, and a packing list tailored to the climate and type of placement.
Who it is for
It is aimed at people in the UK who are thinking about volunteering overseas but have not booked anything yet. That might be a school leaver weighing up a gap year, someone taking a career break, a retiree with time to give, or anyone who has been offered a placement and wants a sense check before committing money or time.
It is also useful if you are early in your research and feeling a bit overwhelmed by the sheer number of organisations and options out there. The checklist gives you a starting point so you can ask better questions and spot anything you might have missed.
How it works
You answer a handful of short questions about your destination, the kind of work (teaching, conservation, medical, construction, community projects and so on), your age, and roughly how long you want to stay. The tool then produces a plain English summary you can read on screen, print, or save. Nothing you enter is stored against your name, and the output is general guidance, not a replacement for official Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office advice or a conversation with the organisation you end up volunteering with.
